Recognition
Cork life sciences leader recognised as Ireland’s biopharma sector continues to move up the value chain.
Edel Collins, General Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Cork site, has been named Person of the Month for April 2026 as part of the Biopharma & Life Sciences Connected recognition series.
The recognition comes at a time when Ireland’s life sciences sector is being asked to deliver more than manufacturing capacity alone. Across pharma, biopharma and medtech, Irish sites are playing a greater role in advanced production, technical capability, supply chain resilience and long-term global operations.
Collins leads Thermo Fisher Scientific’s – API development and manufacturing operation in Cork, one of the country’s long-established pharma services sites. Her selection recognises her leadership within a sector where site-level expertise, team development and operational consistency are increasingly central to Ireland’s international reputation.
The Cork site, which marked 50 years in operation last year, reflects the depth of experience that has helped Ireland remain a trusted location for global life sciences activity. Its continued role within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s network also highlights the importance of regional sites in supporting complex pharmaceutical supply chains.
Edel Collins, General Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said:
“It’s an exciting time for the CDMO sector in Ireland – we’re seeing incredible momentum, innovation, and global impact. I’m honoured to receive this award and proud to be part of an industry that is not only advancing science but also strengthening Ireland’s position as a leading hub for biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing. ”
Colin Murphy, Founder and Chairman of Ingenious Media, said:
“Edel’s recognition is about more than one individual achievement. It reflects the calibre of leadership that exists across Ireland’s life sciences sector. Sites like Cork are central to the industry’s strength, and the people leading them deserve to be recognised for the role they play in sustaining that progress.”
The Person of the Month initiative highlights individuals making a meaningful contribution across biopharma, medtech and life sciences in Ireland. Each monthly recipient will be recognised as part of the wider Biopharma & Life Sciences Connected programme, with a Person of the Year to be selected from the 2026 recipients.
The award will be presented to Edel Collins at a forthcoming ceremony.
